Obituary

Barbara Jean Johnson (Coulter) was born February 22, 1931 on the family farm North of Eden Valley, the daughter of John and Blanche (Mills) Coulter. She attended country school through the fifth grade, walking up hill both ways, continuing her education at the Eden Valley Public Schools. She graduated with the Class of 1948. On November 10, 1951, she was joined in marriage to Robert Dean Johnson of Hector, MN. They made their home at Hector for 34 years. They moved to Lake Koronis near Paynesville in June 1985 and later in July 2007 moved to their present home in Paynesville. They are the parents of three children. Barbara was a baptized member of the Eden Valley Church of God. She served her church in many capacities through the years. She was a Sunday school teacher, Sunday School Superintendent and loved being a choir member. She served the Minnesota State Conference of the Church of God as Treasurer for 14 years. At present, she was serving as President of the Old Eden Lake Cemetery Association. Barbara loved nature, especially walking in the woods with her faithful companion, Daisy, working with flowers, music, decorating, cooking and entertaining family and friends and of course making new friends. She enjoyed laughter and fun, playing board and card games. Most enjoyable was beating Bob in a card game. Barbara nearly always found humor in any situation. Her ability to tell a joke or humorous story borders on legendary. Another favorite pastime was traveling. In past years, she and Bob traveled to many different places. She enjoyed learning the history of those areas. She loved her grandchildren and didn’t hesitate to claim other people’s grandchildren as her own. Barbara died of pancreatic cancer at home with her family by her side on Tuesday, July 8, 2008, she was 77. She is survived by her husband Bob; son, Brad Johnson of Sartell; daughter, Jennifer (John) Nordberg of Brooklyn Center; son, Rodd (Pam) Johnson of Chaska; four official grandchildren, numerous unofficial grandchildren, brother Jim (Nancy) Coulter of Isanti and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Virginia Albright, Vivian Coulter (in infancy) and brother, Jerry Coulter. She awaits the trumpet call of the master.
